May I Join You

“May I join you?” I ask. “You’re reading one of my favorites.”

She carefully places her bookmark and lays the book on the table next to the other books.

She takes me in again and I become even more aware of her amazing deep brown eyes.

Almost like she is reading my mind, I watch a question form in her mind.

“Do you believe the eyes are windows to the soul?” she asks.

I feel myself take a quick breath, a little surprised, yet very pleasantly enticed because her voice poses the question both quietly and seriously.

There are a million places I can begin.

Looking at her, I decide straight forward is best.
